Plunging ranulas present as masses involving the submandibular triangle or other neck spaces secondary to herniation of a portion of the sublingual gland through dehiscences in the mylohyoid muscle. A ranula is a mucus extravasation cyst involving a sublingual gland and is a type of mucocele found on the floor of the mouth. If the associated minor salivary gland is not completely removed recurrence is possible.
