Dye rug diy.
In response to our recent post about alexandra wentworth s dyed rug profiled in elle decor the mother of an apartment therapy reader was kind enough to send in her own step by step diy version for us my daughter forwarded this post referring to the alexandra wentworth rug to me because this spring i had dyed a small rug to cover some stains.
Method 1 of 3.
Leave the rug in the dye bath for up to 30 minutes stirring the water constantly.
There are professionals available to help you should you decide to dye your carpet.
Everything else i already had at home and i would imagine that most other people do too.
Mix a small amount of dye at a time to ensure that the dye is hot when you use it.
Do not dye your carpet if it is made from acrylic polypropylene or polyester the fiber won t absorb the dye properly.
Also make sure that you have a funnel and bottle with spray.
Test your dye on an inconspicuous area.
These products are easy enough to get hold of in stores.
If it isn t dark enough make another dye bath with one and a half times the dye you used in this bath and soak for up to another 30 minutes until your color is achieved.
